According to a common saying, opening a school will close a prison. So what might be the outcome of opening a Temple? Hopefully it will uproot evil from a society

which is vulnerable to crimes and inhuman acts by eradicating the causes of criminal behaviour in an individual before they manifest themselves. Our aim should be as much social as religious. I touch on this important point in order to draw your attention to the benevolent act of inaugurating a Buddhist Community Centre here in Birmingham as the headquarters of the Midlands International Buddhist Association in the United Kingdom.

Setting goals is not a difficult task; the real burden is to find the means to achieve such goals. A temple is not an industry, nor can it be target-driven in the way that the regular social services are, for all that it has the same aim of bringing effective healing to ailing minds. Its funding is also more precarious. Without the kind assistance of devotees, it would be impossible to set or achieve these goals.

A great deal of work has been done with the courtesy of MIBA's dear friends and well-wishers. What we have set ourselves to do is much more complex than anything we have attempted before. As we come closer to our goal, our optimism encourages us to fulfil the task without delay.

Please be kind enough to contact me for further information on the project. We would be grateful for your kind donations for this worthy cause.
